I had been waiting since last fall for this day to arrive. Since being a second photographer for Diana Ornes I had only done one wedding with her prior to this wedding which was last fall, so to wait 10 months for another wedding with Diana was painful! And it happened to be the same day as my birthday! I learned a few days before the wedding that the ceremony was to be held at St. James Catholic Church where I attended church for 9 years in my neighborhood. Growing up I had so many magical memories about church. I remember traveling to St. James while beautiful white snow fell on Christmas Eve or wearing my Easter dress to the holiday mass. There was no doubt when I stepped into the church so many great memories came back and there was no doubt it was going to be a beautiful wedding.
What I absolutely loved about this wedding was that everything was so simple and everyone was so hospitable! Gina Kay's dress was absolutely beautiful along with the fresh summer flowers and the bridesmaid dresses were a perfect color for a summer wedding. Gina Kay & Travis chose to do a first look before the wedding which was my first time witnessing as a wedding photographer. For those of you who don't know what a first look is, the bride and groom take a few moments before the wedding to see each other for the first time. With just the two of them and the photographer it makes for a wonderful moment to capture photos!
After the ceremony we headed over to Pettibone Park for wedding party photos and after we made a stop to take photos on the other side of the Mississippi behind the LHI building. Although the couple chose not to have photos taken at the reception/dance, Diana and I took some extra time to visit and take photos of the decorated tables.
Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my birthday! Spending a few hours of my day doing what I absolutely love was the best birthday gift. Enjoy these photos and I promise to blog more often!
